  • Canadian Ambassador Visits Waste-to-Energy Facility in CLIP

    August 17, 2014

L-R: SPPI Senior Vice– President, Ed Zamora; Lapu-Lapu Mayor, Paz Radaza; Mrs. Irene Reeder; Ambassador Neil Reeder & Honorary Consul to Canada, Katherine Rivera

His Excellency the Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines Neil Reeder and his wife, Irene, and Honorary Consul to Canada, Ms. Katherine Rivera visited the Cebu Light Industrial Park (CLIP) and CLIP’s locator, Aquilini Mactan Renewable Energy Incorporation (Aquilini) last July 1, 2014 as part of Canada’s international development program in the Philippines to boost cleantech or renewable energy.

The Canada envoy was welcomed by Science Park of the Philippines, Inc. Senior Vice-President, Mr. Ed Zamora, Aquilini President, Mr. John Negrin, and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza. The half-day visit was highlighted by a site inspection of the one-hectare site of Aquilini’s proposed waste-to-energy fuel facility and discussions on the company’s future plans on renewable energy. Partly funded by the Canadian government, the $25 million renewable energy manufacturing plant will be a first- of- its- kind in the Philippines that converts a combination of solid and industrial, toxic and hazardous waste of PEZA ecozone locators into additional energy through a controlled, proven, and environmentally-friendly process. Similar operations in other parts of the country is in Aquilini’s pipeline and will also be supported by the Canadian government, as confirmed by Ambassador Reeder in his speech during his Philippine visit.

Aquilini chose the Philippines and CLIP as its pilot site because of the country’s interest in pursuing renewable energy initiatives and CLIP’s world-class and hands-on team who assisted the renewable energy company since it started visiting the country in February 2013. The construction of the waste-to-energy facility is expected to be completed by 2nd quarter of 2015.

SPPI was established in 1989, and through the years, has gained the reputation of being a cutting edge developer of industrial estates through its Light Industry & Science Park projects.

Today, SPPI is highly regarded as one of the pioneers and leaders in private industrial estate development in the country and has the largest hectarage of industrial estates developed, and being developed with almost 800 hectares of aggregate area.
